Flyertalk has discovered an amazing British Airways Business Class fare. No positioning required! (except for those based in the regions, but I’m sure that you already are accustomed to that…)

For approximately £1,000, you can fly return from London’s Gatwick Airport to Oakland, California  – just across the bay from San Francisco and accessible on public transport – in Business Class / Club World.

Availability appears to be pretty good for outbound departures between 10 January and 28 February, 2018, on the handful of days that BA flies the route. (in competition with Norwegian) There appears to be no maximum stay restriction, so you can return at your leisure (or nest tickets in true travel hacker fashion…)

British Airways flies one of their older 777 aircraft out of Gatwick for the 11-hour flight to the West Coast, but for £1,000 return I’m pretty sure you won’t mind taking a fully charged tablet, laptop and a book…

This fare appears to be a competitive response to some aggressive pricing by Norwegian of its Premium Economy cabin on the same route, so who knows how long this fare will last.

The “I” fare class will earn 280 British Airways Tier Points and at least 150% of the 10,700 miles flown. Of course, here at InsideFlyer UK we recommend you consider Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan with its whopping 250% earning rate and a mileage currency that is worth much more than Avios.

Even without considering the value of the miles you can earn, if you fancy a winter getaway to San Francisco, now’s the time to book it!
