Hilton Honors is back with another decent triple Avios offer for stays between 15th October 2017 – 30th January 2018.
Hilton HHonors allows you to ‘Double Dip’ – either by earning ‘Points + Points’ (P+P), or ‘Points + Miles’ (P+M) for your stays.
The additional Points you get for selecting P+P is 50% more base Points per Dollar, so 5 extra Hilton HHonors Points per $1 spent. If you select P+M instead, you forego that extra 5 Hilton Points, and in most cases get 1 airline Mile of your choice per $1 spent instead.
Ordinarily, I would say that 5 Hilton Points are worth considerably more than 1 Avios (or Virgin Flying Club Mile or whatever you prefer), and so would recommend sticking with P+P.
When there’s a bonus on the number of airline Miles you can earn though, that can change the equation. Triple BA Avios means 3 Avios per $1 spent at Hilton hotels. Most readers are likely to value 5 Hilton Points at about 2p and 3 Avios at about 3p, so this is definitely worth considering.
How to get triple Avios
To take advantage, you need to change your earning preference from P+P to P+M – so login to your Hilton account, click on ‘edit preferences’, and then on ‘change earning style’. You then need to select BA as your preferred earning partner, enter your Executive Club number and you must also register for the triple Avios promotion on this page here.
The terms state that the bonus only applies to new bookings, but based on past experience I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see bonus Avios hitting my account for stays already booked – so long as the stay itself takes place by 30th January 2018.
There’s mention of a similar offer on the Iberia Plus website here. Ordinarily, you’re better off earning Avios with Iberia Plus for Hilton stays rather than British Airways Executive Club, because the standard earning rate is 1.5 Avios per $1 rather than 1.
Triple Avios with Iberia Plus would therefore be 4.5 per $1 rather than 3 with British Airways Executive Club.
The problem is that I can’t seem to find a proper registration link for the Iberia Plus offer on the Hilton site yet. It’s possible that the Iberia Plus offer doesn’t require registration (just add IB Plus as your Points + Miles earning partner) and the British Airways Executive Club offer does, but that seems a little unlikely.
I thought it was worth mentioning, but proceed at your own risk with the IB Plus offer.
Always good to see a bonus Avios offer from Hilton. Remember that you should be able to stack the Avios offer with the current double Hilton Honors Points promotion, and perhaps with this 5,000 Points bonus offer too.
