You can currently get ~£23 ($30) off all hotel bookings over ~£78 ($100) with online travel agency Orbitz, thanks to a promotion they are running with coffee brand Maxwell House.

It may sound a bit peculiar, but it works perfectly and is a relatively easy way to knock up to 30% off the cost of your next hotel stay.

The first thing to do is head to the promotional site here. It’s primarily a sweepstake for Maxwell House customers, where you can win a free trip or one of a thousand $30 Orbitz gift cards – don’t worry about any of that though, it’s not what we’re really interested in! Click “enter now” and fill in your email address etc. At this point you will be asked for a code, but at the bottom of the page you’ll see a link that says “I don’t have a code” – click on it.

You have to watch a 15 second video as penance for not having a code, which is hardly a big deal.

You can then play a little game to try and win a giftcard, but you don’t have to if you don’t want to. Regardless of whether you play or not, you should get an email from Maxwell House with the subject line “Your entry…” (remember to check your spam folder if you can’t see it). Scroll down the email and you will find a personalised Coupon Code for $30 off $100+ spend on hotels at Orbitz:

How to use the $30 code

It’s really very easy – all you have to do is search for the hotel you want as you normally would, click on “Enter a coupon or promotion code” when you get to the booking page, and then paste in your code.

Note that because Orbitz is a US site, tax is added on separately at the end. The good news is that the $100 minimum spend requirement is inclusive of tax, as you can see below:

Contrary to what the terms and conditions state, I found that the discount codes worked on every hotel I tried – including all the major chains, which are normally excluded from this type of promotion.

Conclusion
