Hilton Honors has announced a simple promotion that will be good throughout 2017. Members can earn 500 bonus points when booking through the Hilton Honors App. Pre-registration is required so, before you forget, make sure to go do that at this website.

As always, this promotion will stack with Hilton Honors’ 2,000 points per night promotion, as well as any airline-specific ones. Unlike that promotion, however, you would need to cancel and re-book any hotel stays to earn the extra 500 bonus points from booking with the Hilton Honors App.

500 points is worth approximately £2, so is absolutely nothing to get excited about. Back in January, John wrote about ways to earn cashback (or “miles” back) on your paid Hilton Honors stays. Any of those options are going to provide better value than 500 points so re-read his post to refresh your memory.

So why bother even writing about this promo? Well, you should be able to earn 500 bonus points on AWARD stays. It is considered good practice to charge something to your room – a Coke, a phone call, etc. – in order to earn a couple of Honors points. Then all promo bonuses tend to credit just fine on award stays…

Please don’t use the Hilton Honors App for paid stays – do “miles” back  – but during 2017 you should try to get into the habit of booking your award nights via the Hilton Honors App.
