I recently visited the Christmas Markets in Hamburg, staying at the Holiday Inn Express using the latest IHG PointBreaks promotion covered by The Deal Daddy.
Although I don’t want to get a reputation, I’m starting to become a little obsessed with collecting Miles&More miles which is obviously a little easier in Germany. Why? First of all the Frankfurt Lufthansa First Class Terminal has become something of a life goal. Second, despite the deserving criticism Miles&More redemptions get as a result of the eye-watering taxes applied, there are ways of securing yourself a redemption bargain.
I also very much like the fact that you can earn miles on the budget option Eurowings too – not something you can do with easyJet or Ryanair.
Anyway, after a great weekend drinking much Heisser Apfelpunsch mit Amaretto, we stopped off at the Heinemann duty free store on our way back from Hamburg – where I noticed an interesting little offer they’re running over Christmas/New Year.
Background
Heinemann is a duty free company that operates in airports around Europe, with their main presence in Germany, Austria and Italy.
Heinemann is a Miles&More and AirBerlin TopBonus partner year round. By presenting your frequent flyer membership card at the checkout (physical or on your smartphone app); or entering your membership number for online purchases, you usually earn 1 mile/euro spent.
The Deal
Between 1st November and 6th January 2017, Heinemann are offering 3x miles with Miles&More and TopBonus if you register on their website. Best of all, the terms and conditions state this offer can be applied retrospectively as long as you made your purchases during the promotional period, and register before it ends.
Presumably however, this is intended for transactions where you entered your M&M or TopBonus card details, not any purchase made without crediting to either.
Duty paid Tobacco purchases (i.e. for passengers within the EU), books, magazines and drinks in returnable bottles are excluded.
But you said 5x…
I did – and it’s really simple to get. Heinemann are offering 5x miles for customers who are also Heinemann & Me members; which is free to join. So if you are happy to sign up for their membership scheme as well, they will credit you with 5x Bonus miles!
As an added bonus of Heinemann & Me membership, it also appears that they will send you a €10 voucher on your birthday!
Summary
If you are passing through an airport with a Heinemann duty free option over the Christmas period and are planning to make Duty Free purchases anyway, or you’ve already made some purchases during the promotional period – you’ve got nothing to lose by signing up.
Bear in mind however, Miles&More have a strict expiration policy unless you hold their MBNA Credit Card or have status with them, so unless you’re already a Miles&More collector, I’d go for TopBonus – you never know when they might come in useful.
