Iberia Plus is currently offering 50% off the number of Avios required for flights from the UK to a range of destinations in Spain.

You need to book by the end of October and fly by the end of November to get the discounted rates.

You can book either through your Iberia Plus account, or if you don’t have one (you should open one) you can use Avios.com instead. It’s not possible to get the discount if you try to book using your British Airways Executive Club account. Transferring Avios between the three sister programmes is easy using the ‘combine my avios’ function.

Eligible Destinations

Band 1: From 2.250 Avios for a one way trip:
– To / From Madrid to Ibiza, Mallorca or Menorca.

Special Band: From 3.250 Avios for a one way trip:
– To / From Madrid to London (LGW)

Band 2: From 3.750 Avios for a one way trip:
– To / From London (LHR) to Oviedo.
– To / From Madrid to Birmingham, Edinburgh or Manchester.

Band 3: From 5.000 Avios for a one way trip:
– To / From London (LHR) to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

One thing I’ve never noticed before is that awards between London Gatwick and Madrid require fewer Avios than flights to Madrid from anywhere else in the UK.  It says “Special Band”, so I don’t know if it’s a temporary thing or not?

Business Class to/from Madrid for just 6,375 Avios + £17.60-£38.72 (one-way) is a great price! The flights are on ‘Iberia Express’ but you still get a Lounge access, and a hot meal and bar service.

Iberia award flights between Madrid and Buenos Aires also currently require 20% fewer Avios for bookings made by 15th December flying between 1st November-30th April. Using Avios to fly with Iberia is a great way to get to South America (book through Iberia Plus, not BAEC!), and 20% off just sweetens the deal further.

There was a comment on HFP saying that from Manchester to Madrid it was possible to get cash fares for £30 one way in November, so this might not be as good of a deal as it initially appears.

Yeah, cash fares can definitely be good in Economy (Ryanair fly to Madrid from Manc as well from ~£20.00 which helps keep the prices down and provides another option). I still think the Business Class rate is tough to beat though – at least as a little treat if you’ve got a few spare Avios (cash prices can be over £250 one-way!).
