Hilton HHonors, the loyalty scheme of Hilton hotels, has just announced details of its Autumn promotion. If you’re a regular follower of the HHonors promotions, you may just get a sense of slight deja vu…

Yes, after racking their brains and (probably) paying thousands of dollars to expert marketing consultants, Hilton have come up with (in their own words, “drumroll please”…) double points! 

Now I’m not knocking a Hilton double points offer for a second, but given that it seems to have been the stock Hilton HHonors promo for pretty much as long as I can remember (with an alternative double miles option occasionally thrown in, you know, just to really spice things up) it’s not exactly ground-breaking stuff.

Anyway, enough of my cynicism. The offer runs from 1 September, 2016, until 31 December 2016 and you can pre-register for it here.

One key point to note is that the HHonors points bonus is on “Base Points” earned. Hilton lets you choose between earning “Points and Points” (10 Points + 5 bonus Points per $1 spent) or “Points and Miles” (10 Points plus 1 airline mile per $1 spent), so the key point here is that you will not be penalised if you earn “Points and Miles”, because it’s only the 10 Hilton HHonors “Base Points” that are doubled.

As with any promotion of this sort, we strongly recommend that you just register for it, whether or not you specifically plan to stay at a Hilton hotel in the promotion period. I have lost count of the number of times I have signed up to miles/points bonuses, forgotten about them, and then ended up staying in a particular hotel/flown with a particular airline and earned a long-forgotten bonus, courtesy of my OCD tendency to sign up for every points promo out there. You will apparently need to wait six to eight weeks from completion of your stay for the bonus points to appear in your Hilton HHonors account.
