5,000 Completely Free Avios?!?!

I’ve written before about Royal Air Maroc (RAM) joining Avios and what this might mean in terms of new redemption ‘sweet spots’, but I didn’t give the earning side of things much thought at the time. RAM have just announced an offer though that looks like an easy way to grab 5,000 free Avios, if you are prepared to wait a little while for the Points.

The Offer

RAM’s loyalty programme ‘Safar Flyer’ is offering 5,000 ‘Safar Miles’ to every new family account created before 30th September.

All you need to do is join Safar Flyer (get your family to sign up too), then set up a family account by filling in this short form and sending a scanned copy of it to [email protected], along with copies of ID (passport or national identity card) for each member.

You said “free Avios”, not “free Safar Miles”???

Yep.

RAM is adopting Avios as its new loyalty currency… at some point (hence the need to wait a little while!). When this does eventually happen, existing Safar Miles will almost definitely be converted to Avios – and having had a quick look at the Safar Flyer award chart, I think a 1:1 exchange ratio would be the obvious choice.

We don’t know yet whether it will be possible to transfer RAM Avios to BA/Iberia/Avios.com (I would guess probably not), or what the RAM Avios award chart is going to look like – but I certainly think that 5,000 should be more than enough for a short flight on an Avios partner like British Airways, so it’s well worth having!

Conclusion

I value 5,000 Avios as being worth about £50.00, so this is a potentially very lucrative offer!

If you happen to be in Morocco before the programme switches to Avios, 5,000 Safar Miles is more than enough for a domestic redemption using their current award chart, or you can pay and get an additional bonus 4,000 Miles for your first flight with RAM.
