The unstoppable juggernaut that is now #TrainTuesday continues to hurtle forward (believe us, we’ve tried to make it stop!), due to the kind people at Virgin offering 20% off train tickets for both Virgin West Coast and Virgin East Coast Trains.

All you need to do is download the Virgin Red app here and then click through to either the Virgin West Coast or Virgin East Coast site (depending on where you are travelling!) directly from the app. After that, you should be prompted to add an email address and paste the promotion code the app gives you, and then you’re good to go!

The 20% discount only applies to Advance fares and expires in five days (24th July).

I know many readers still lament the loss of the old East Coast Rewards programme, but to be fair to Virgin they have been pushing discounts and perks like free wifi (when you book direct) quite hard, as well as offering bonus Nectar Points and 500 Virgin Flying Club Miles.

Overall, I don’t think I’m actually much worse off – which is a lot better than I thought things would be! Anybody else pleasantly surprised?
