Overview

The Conrad Ko Samui is a brand new property on the south-west corner of Ko Samui which boasts some incredible views across the Gulf of Thailand.

It is a category 10 property in the Hilton family, featuring only private villas and retailing at $600-$900 per night, or 95,000 HHonors points.

The Conrad Ko Samui hangs on a steep hillside overlooking the Gulf of Thailand. As your taxi pulls up over the crest of the hill, you arrive at the reception area which overlooks the resort and ocean down below.

This photo gives you some idea of how the resort “clings” to the hillside:

Buggies take you from reception on the hilltop, through the villas down below and all the way to the pool and the beach.

Upgraded?

Upgrades at the hotel are mostly a non-point since all the rooms are private villas. There are 2 types of villas – normal and “retreat” villas, one is somewhat bigger than the other but both are FAR beyond your normal hotel room experience.

Prices are not cheap, but there is some serious value here:

The room

The rooms are incredible, not least because of the open sea views:

The bathrooms are huge with a large shower and a larger bath:

Each room has its own private pool:

Note the nice touch of the “infinity” effect:

Facilities

The hotel’s swimming pool lies just above the beach at the foot of the resort:

The “deckchairs by the pool” are far from the standard:

You can also, free of cost, take kayaks out on the sea to play around. The views are breathtaking.

Guests can also sign up for one of the speedboat rides out to a private island 20 minutes by boat from the resort. The beach is a good deal bigger than the one right by the property, though watch out for jellyfish – you have been warned.

Restaurants/breakfast

There are a handful of different restaraunts at the resort, each offering something different. Breakfast is a buffet and takes place at the larger of the restaraunts. It offers and excellent spread and special items can also be ordered off the menu. Nothing wrong with sticking to the basics, however:

The restaurant itself is spacious and well-laid out, with (as you would expect from somewhere with largely nothing but) sweeping sea views:

Quality of service

The hotel experience at Conrad Ko Samui is in a different ballpark from your conventional hotel experience. The hotel staff are eager to do anything in their power to make your stay one to remember for years. The experience is flawless from start to finish.

Room details

Rate Paid: We redeemed our 2-night certificates earned as the signup bonus from Hilton’s Citi Reserve card. After our 2 free nights, we couldn’t bring ourselves to leave so we booked a 3rd night using Hilton’s Points+Cash option. We used 40,000 points and around $300 which was a decent deal (considering the villa’s sell for 95,000 points OR over $650).

Room Type: Ocean View Pool Villa

Summary of stay

The Conrad Ko Samui is truly a wonderful property, worthy of its category 10 ranking. Be ready to spend a bit of cash on food and drinks, but there are few more memorable properties out there.

This is absolutely one of the stars of the Hilton portfolio.
