A one night stay at the Hyatt in Johannesburg reminded me about great South African service. It is quite a long time since I was in South Africa and I had a short one night stay at the Hyatt Regency recently.
Although the Gautrain from the airport runs to the station nearby, when I got to the changeover point there was a 23 minute wait, so I hopped a cab and was at the hotel in about 10 minutes.
A few minutes later, even after a faulty key card, I was in my room on the 5th floor.
It turned out to be a suite which was a lovely surprise! Not quite sure how it happened, the check-in agent thought I used a suite upgrade cert, and perhaps I had!
The living room was nicely laid out with a couple of comfortable chairs and a large sofa, as well as a desk:
There was also a sun terrace with a view back towards the airport:
The bedroom had a large king bed that proved very comfortable for sleeping. There was also an easy chair in the bedroom and a second flat screen TV.
The bathroom had a full sized bath and a separate shower room (impossible to photograph). The wash stand was just outside the bathroom on the way from the bedroom.
The views from the sun room were spectacular – and there was an enormous thunderstorm whilst I was there.
My Diamond Amenity was already in the room when I arrived and I was not given a choice of points at check-in:
The Regency Club located on the 8th floor was excellent – never too busy with a wide range of food items in the evening and morning. There is even a room you can use to print out your boarding passes, if you ask.
Late check-out was no problem, and after checking the train times I was quickly back to the airport.
