IHG Rewards has announced a promotion that will run from February 1st until March 31st, 2022. Members can earn DOUBLE points on their paid stays.

Is it worth it?

Well… it’s certainly better than nothing.

IHG Rewards members normally earn 10 points per US dollar spent (so about 13.5 per £1). This promotion means that you would earn an extra 10 points per $. At a relatively generous valuation of 0.5 cents per point, you’d be getting an additional 5% rebate.

The fine print

Qualifying Stays are a minimum 1-night stay booked under a Qualifying Rate, with total spend exceeding US $30 for each night. 

It is also worth making clear that IHG Points & Cash bookings are just award stays for which you buy points at the time of booking. Therefore, you will NOT earn double points on the cash portion of a Points & Cash booking…

And for the avoidance of doubt, you do NOT earn the double points bonus on any bonus points earned from being a Spire, Platinum, etc. member.

Bottom line

Until a couple of years ago, IHG would compensate for its lack of guaranteed elite status benefits by running lucrative bonus point promotions. Those days have sadly ended, leaving many InsideFlyer readers with little reason to go out of their way to choose an IHG hotel instead of a Hilton, Hyatt or Marriott property.

That said, IHG’s scale means they frequently offer a convenient and affordable option, so you should of course register now to ensure that you get double points on any stays you do make.
