Why You Should Sign Up Your Family and Friends to Aegean Miles + Bonus This Weekend

Yesterday, I wrote about Aegean offering 6,000 award miles to everybody signing up this weekend to its Miles + Bonus loyalty programme. Click here for a reminder.

6,000 likely-to-be-orphaned miles might not seem particularly valuable, but what if you could sign up various family members and eventually combine those miles together?  Here’s how…

Transferring Miles

Aegean Miles + Bonus allows members to transfer miles to another member, for a fixed price of 15 euros (£12.70).  This is a great price for moving 6,000 orphaned miles into your account.

There is a catch, however…

Miles+Bonus Members that have completed their registration, and have registered at least 1 flight with AEGEAN, Olympic Air or Star Alliance in their Miles + Bonus account are entitled to miles transfer service.

So, there is no point signing up your cat for a Miles + Bonus account. (since your cat will never fly in a paid seat) But since these 6,000 miles are unlikely to expire for several years, you have quite awhile for your family / friends to take a single Star Alliance flight.  After which you can pay the reasonable 15 euro fee to move their miles over to your account…

A Together Account

If you decide to take those 1,000 free Tier miles and work towards Silver (or even Gold) status with Miles + Bonus, you will qualify for Aegean’s Together account.

This works in a similar way to British Airways’ Household Account. A Together account can consist of 2-6 members who are NOT required to live at the same address.

The Head as well as all Together members under the Relation Type “Father”, “Mother”, “Spouse” and “Companion” must be over 18 years old, whereas Members under the Relation Type “Brother”, “Child”, “Companion”, “Friend” and “Sister” must be over 2 years old.

Why not just pay 15 euros?

Because a Together account doesn’t appear to require any flights… So you could combine 5 times 6,000 free award miles into the same account for free, but only if you manage to earn elite status with Miles + Bonus of course…

Keeping Track of it All…

If you aren’t yet a member of Award Wallet, you should be.  It is simply the easiest way to keep track of your various loyalty programme balances. I find Award Wallet to be especially valuable for tracking the passwords, balances, etc. of family members and friends – those who ask me to keep an eye on things, without me necessarily having a reason to log in regularly…

So if you are signing up family and friends to a Miles + Bonus account, Award Wallet is a great way to keep track of those new accounts and passwords…
