Excuse the low-grade sarcastic humour in the title, but Hilton has once again rebooted it’s more or less permanent offer of 100% bonuses on points purchases. The current promotion runs until 30 September (after which it will probably pause for a week or so before returning again).
The Deal
Hilton’s regular price is 1 US cent per point. The 100% bonus, takes the price down to 0.5 cents per point, so currently around 0.36p
You must buy at least 10,000 points to receive the 100% bonus. If you buy the maximum of 160,000 points, you will receive 320,000 points. Assuming that you have elite status with Hilton Honors (and so get the fifth night free), that is enough for a five-night stay at nearly every Hilton Honors hotel worldwide.
Should I Buy?
You might want to re-read Craig’s post explaining when to pay a cash rate and when to redeem points.
Due to the lucrative triple point promotion that is running until early September 2021, you are going to find it rather hard to find a reward stay that beats simply paying the cash rate (and earning thousands of bonus points). This makes it even less likely that you would want to buy points today for an immediate redemption.
However, as I have previously pointed out, there are examples like the Maldives where buying points now can easily save you £1,000s. See also below for the other end of the scale – i.e. budget rooms for just £18 a night…
Rooms at £18, You Said?
Yes – Hilton redemptions start at just 5,000 points. 5000 x 0.36p is just £18. Yes, these hotels are limited but they do exist. Even at the doubled 10K points rate, you’re still only paying £36 a night for two people, and quite probably breakfast.
If You Do Buy, Don’t Forget Cashback
Regular readers will know that we regularly promote TopCashback USA because, among other reasons, you can earn some cashback on your points/miles purchases when they are processed by Points.com.
Not A Member of Topcashback USA Yet?
If you are not yet a member of Topcashback, you can earn an additional $10. Simply sign up using this referral link – http://www.topcashback.com/join-us/inside-flyer/ref/craigsowerby – and earn $10 of cashback.
It’s really quite simple to earn $10 of cashback. The number of hotel chains available via Topcashback is impressive – Hilton, IHG, Marriott, Accor, Choice, Best Western, etc. – as well as the major Online Travel Agencies. So a single hotel stay will probably get you there…
Rob says
Can TCB USA payout to airlines the sme as the UK version?
Craig Sowerby says
Airlines? Do you mean Avios? No… TCB does not have the Avios payout option.
