Ignoring the tedious debate over whether a “staycation”  involves staying at home or in the UK, there’s no doubt that at the moment there’s a boom in UK-based travel options. Whether experiences or accommodation

While we’ve long recommended our friends at Bearded Men Adventures for some proper British adrenaline, we have otherwise spent a fair bit of time focusing on some varied UK-based travel options, that offer something a little bit different, or exceptional value.

One such option is currently available – offering both a unique experience and an excellent price.

Via Secret Escapes, you can currently book the Good Hotel, a floating hotel in Royal Victoria Dock, London, for just £68 a night for two people, including breakfast. The offer runs for stays from now until September, and the booking is on a fully refundable basis.

While it’s a quality floating hotel in a good location, there’s a little more to the Good Hotel than you may be aware of – it actually used to be a floating prison in the Netherlands.

So while you can enjoy a luxurious night bobbing up and down on the Thames at a more than reasonable price, bear in mind that previous guests will have been in your room on a distinctly less glamorous basis.

And you really are doing good…

Good Hotel is genuinely a fantastic business. All profits generated by it go to The Good Global Foundation, which supports social causes all around the world. So not only can you enjoy your night in prison based on the more positive circumstances of you electing to be there, you can also relax in the knowledge that your room rate is helping others.
