Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer is currently offering a superb 50% discount on Business Class redemptions from London Heathrow to a range of destinations:

“We all need a little something to look forward to, so why not start planning your next getaway with our KrisFlyer Miles Special? Book your flight to Bangkok, Phuket, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta or The Maldives and save 50% when redeeming in full using your KrisFlyer miles.”

You need to book by 17th May 2021 and travel between 11th May – 31st December 2021. The destinations available are as follows (note that the amount of miles required is for a RETURN):

To get the promotional rates to show up, you do need to book a return – not just a one way. It’s also worth pointing out that you need to click on a particular date to see whether the promotional rate is available (it doesn’t show up on the week search bar):

In total, taxes/fees should be about £255:

Bottom line

I’m quite conflicted about this offer. Being able to book a return from London to Asia with Singapore Airlines in Business Class for 92,000 miles + ~£255 is a truly fantastic deal. On the other hand, the terms are extremely strict:

  1. No changes are permitted for Redemption Transactions made under this Promotion. No cancellations are permitted for partially used or totally unused tickets.
  2. For (i) any flights cancelled by SIA, or (ii) where a SQ-operated flight was removed from a Participant’s booking due to Covid-19 regulatory or governmental restrictions, even if the relevant flight is still operating, the miles redeemed in the relevant Redemption Transactions will be refunded into the relevant Participant’s KrisFlyer account and no additional fees will be charged for such refunds. However, requests to amend any booking details, or to retain the ticket for future use will not be granted.”

Given the amount of uncertainty still involved with international travel, I’m not sure how comfortable I would be booking one of these, even for late 2021.

Are you tempted to take advantage of the 50% discount?

Looks like common sense to me for a promo of this generosity. If Thailand won’t let you in due to COVID or the flight is cancelled, you get your miles back instead of an open ticket to travel whenever you like.

Of course, you might have moved Amex or Marriott points over, which would be stuck in Krisflyer. Plus you can’t just change your mind about dates / destination like with a normal, refundable, award ticket.
