I’ve been banging on a fair bit about the joys of the Amex Gold of late. One of the clear benefits (of both this card, and indeed the range of others) is the “cardmember offers“, which provide a selection of rebates on your Amex spend. The problem is the consistency of the offers – sometimes they are genuinely fantastic, at other times wholly underwhelming.

Anyway, one of my very favourites has returned – £50 back on a £200 Hilton spend.

To benefit, you simply need to log in to your Amex online account, access the offers and click “save to card”.

The key term to this offer is that the offer excludes online payments and is only valid on checkout spend. As such, it’s vital that if you want to benefit from this option, you choose a rate that requires payment at check out, not immediately.

Is it available to all?

Having spoken to a number of other Amex cardholders, the offer appears to be widely available on Amex Gold, Amex Platinum and the BA Premium and BA free card.

The offer runs until 31 August, so there’s plenty of time to benefit from it despite current restrictions. It also ties in beautifully with the current Hilton double or triple points promotion, which runs till 6 September.

Incidentally, here’s the “Does it have a Hilton?” status of the 12 green-listed countries, for quick reference:

An example

You could use this offer at the Hilton Vilamoura in southern Portugal. Two nights for two people in a King Deluxe room would cost you £304, but reduced to a much preferable £254 with the rebate:

Note that rate is cancellable up to 1 day before arrival. Extend the stay by a day, and you’ll earn triple (rather than double) Hilton Honors points.
