IHG Rewards has just launched its new global promotion, which offers the opportunity to earn up to triple points on stays. The promotion will run between 5th May – 16th August.
You must register your account and can do so here right now.
The way the promotion is structured, you will earn no bonus points on your first stay, double points on your second stay, and triple points on your third and subsequent stays:
Therefore, if you have some long and/or expensive stays planned later this summer, it could well make sense to make a couple of cheap stays first, in order to benefit from triple points. Only cash stays count as qualifying, not points stays.
It is also worth noting that you can only earn a maximum of 100,000 bonus points during the course of the promotion.
Good deal?
Not bad at all.
At most IHG brands you normally earn 10 points per $1 USD (at Staybridge Suites and Candlewood Suites it is 5 points per dollar). Triple points bumps that to 30 points per $1, so about 40 points per £1.
Despite the recent award pricing changes, having looked at quite lot of different IHG hotels and destinations recently, I’m happy to stick with my 0.4p minimum redemption value.
If you paid £100 for a hotel stay (and it was your third eligible stay, so you would receive triple points), you would get back about 4,000 points, worth ~£16.
Bottom line
An effective ~16% rebate on your hotel spend (third stay onward) is pretty good, particularly if you also have elite status with IHG Rewards. A Spire elite member would be getting more than 20% back in total, for example.
I would recommend registering now in order to benefit, even if you don’t have any hotel stays planned yet. It really is easy to forget and a shame to miss out on bonus points!

Hi Joe – did you get prompted for a promo code at all?
Colin Thames says
No code required.
I’ve got three, one day back to back bookings in June. Hoping they’ll be counted as three stays, not merged into one.
Craig Sowerby says
If they are all at the same hotel, they will most likely be merged together. If you are hopping between hotels you will be fine.
Joe Deeney says
Nope – not when I was already logged in. Just had a look now without logging in though and it asked for one – use 51408
Ken Gamble says
requires an offer code which I don’t have and will not let me progress without one – any solutions?
Joe Deeney says
If you log in to your account before clicking through to the promo registration page, you should just need to add your email address or IHG number (at least that was the case for me – chromebook, using google chrome).
Alternatively, this code should work: 51408
Ken Gamble says
Worked – many thanks
Rob Rixon says
How odd. I’m always logged in before registering for the promotions, but still this morning was prompted for a code. Which worked fine, so thank you!
