Hilton Be My Guest Certificates are sometimes issued as compensation when a guest has encountered significant problems during a stay. They are physical paper certificates that can be used to get a free night (standard room, best available rate) at any Hilton hotel of the same brand. For example, if your problematic stay was at a Hilton DoubleTree, your certificate will entitle you to a free night at any Hilton DoubleTree hotel.
I received one in early 2020 and due to the pandemic haven’t really had much opportunity to use it. It was due to expire in March 2021, so I thought I’d ask Hilton if they would be willing to grant an extension. The good news, if you’re in a similar situation, is that Hilton is happy to extend the certificates. Right now, you can get an extension through to the end of June, but it’s possible that might be extended further nearer the time.
How to extend Hilton Be My Guest Certificates
All you have to do is send a quick email requesting an extension to [email protected] and include the following details:
- Name
- Email address you use for Hilton Honors
- Hilton Honors membership number
- Be My Guest Certificate number
Shortly after, you should receive a reply along the lines of the following:
“Thank you for reaching out to Hilton Guest Assistance regarding an extension to your Be My Guest certificate expiry date.
I’m happy to confirm that I’ve now submitted the required information and the expiry date for Be My Guest certificate xxxxxxxxx has been extended to June 30th, 2021. As we’re extending the validity of the certificate and not issuing a replacement, please make sure you keep a hold of the original certificate as this will need to be presented upon check-in at the time of use in order to be redeemed.”
Note that although the validity of the certificate is being extended, you will not receive a replacement. I would therefore suggest keeping the email confirmation of the extension for when you try to use the certificate. Otherwise, the hotel staff might just look at the expiry date on the certificate itself and claim that it is no longer valid.
Bottom line
I had grand plans to use my certificate somewhere exotic, but think London might now be a more realistic option before the end of June. To be honest, I’ll be delighted to use it (and go) anywhere!
