Since the end of August, travellers due to fly on one of the Lufthansa Group airlines have been able to make changes to the trip without paying a rebooking fee. The period for free rebooking is now extended until 31 May 2021.
New and constantly changing travel restrictions around the world have made it difficult for travellers to plan and book travel ahead of time. Many airlines have therefore chosen to make most of their ticket types more flexible. The corona situation still creates a lot of uncertainty and the Lufthansa Group has therefore chosen to extend the period of free rebooking until 31 May 2021. This applies to all companies in the group – Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines and Eurowings.
The measure was originally introduced by the airlines in August last year and was scheduled to last until February. The policy also applies to airline tickets issued before 31 August 2020.
Fare differences still have to be paid
The extended policy applies to all domestic, European and intercontinental flights. Although Lufthansa thus makes it safer for customers to book flights ahead of time, they have still not gone as far as a number of other airlines. Any price difference on the tickets due to things like changes of booking class, date, or destination, must still be covered by the customer.
