British Airways Executive Club has launched a Double Avios promotion that will apply to your first 10 flights or holidays. To participate, you must:

• Take a moment to register – you must do this before booking
• Book your flights or holidays before 31 August 2020
• Complete all flights and holidays before 31 December 2020

This includes all domestic flights in the UK, and within southern Africa. Also included are British Airways codeshare flights operated by BA’s  partners – American Airlines, Iberia and Finnair – when travelling between Europe and North America.

What does Double Avios actually mean?

You will receive double the BASE Avios that you receive on your flight. Cabin or tier bonuses are not doubled.

If you book a cheap economy fare therefore – one that earns only 25% of miles flown – you will earn an additional 25% of miles flown.

And any flexible or Club World / Europe fares will earn a bonus of 100% of miles flown.

Anything else to consider?

Only your first ten flights (after registering) will receive the extra bonus (note that it’s technically 10 ‘segments’ ie 10 one way flights or 5 returns). In previous promotions, you might have needed to do a delicate dance to maximise your bonus. At the moment, I would be quite surprised if too many people could manage more than ten flights before the end of 2020.

It’s also worth noting that your Executive Club account must be registered in the United Kingdom or United States in order to earn Double Avios on HOLIDAYS.  This is an additional top up of 1 Avios per £/$1 – NOW 2 Avios. You will receive this 4-8 weeks after your holiday.

Conclusion

It is certainly understandable that British Airways might want to provide some added incentive to book flights. It’s too soon for me, but I’m sure that many readers will appreciate the bonus opportunity…
