Qatar Airways Privilege Club has taken the very welcome step of removing ‘Award Flight Fees’ for flights booked using Qmiles:
“(We) continue to offer you the ultimate flexibility with our latest travel policies, so you can have the confidence to plan now and travel when you are ready.
As we continue to reinstate flights, with 59 destinations globally this June, we want to make it easier for you to use Qmiles to fly to those destinations when the moment is right to explore together again.
That’s why, we will no longer be applying Award Flight fees, usually USD 25 per segment in Economy, USD 50 per segment in Business, or USD 75 per segment in First. You can now choose to book using Qmiles, fee-free and with ease, at qmiles.com and the mobile app.
The fees were charged per segment, which meant they could rapidly add up to serious money. Flying to anywhere except Doha itself would require at least 2 segments in each direction (eg. London – Doha – Singapore), so a return in Business Class would have $200 in fees tacked on. Note that is per person as well, so families could easily end up having to pay $800+ in total.
Bottom line
Removing these fees is a good start and hopefully we will see more positive changes to Privilege Club soon.
