We have been waiting for it a long time, but British Airways has finally extended elite status for Executive Club members by 12 months!

The main good news is that all Executive Club members get their status extended by 12 months.

Another positive thing is that the Tier Points required for re-qualifying have been reduced by 25%. The new thresholds are:

  • Gold: 1,125 Tier Points
  • Silver: 450 Tier Points
  • Bronze: 225 Tier Points

British Airways Executive Club elite members should soon receive an email similar to the one below:

We all love to hear some good news every now and then. And so today, we wanted to tell you something that we hope will make you smile.

As the world prepares to fly once more, we know there is still a long road ahead, and we wanted you to know that we’ll be right there with you every step of the journey.

To say thank you for all your loyalty and support, we’ve added 12 months extra onto your Gold Executive Club membership. So you have more time to enjoy your benefits, whenever you’re ready to return to the skies.

What’s more, it will be even easier to retain your Gold status next time you’re up for renewal, as we’ve decreased the amount of Tier Points needed by 25%. This is the same for upgrade thresholds too, making that next Tier more achievable.

You can read more information here, and other ways we’re supporting you during this period.

We hope that put a smile on your face. Thank you again for your loyalty.

Your Executive Club Team

Bottom line

This is a late, but very welcome, move by BA. I am not really sure what advantage they saw in delaying the news for so long when most airline programmes extended status months ago, but at least they have now seen sense.

If you haven’t received an email yet, you can read more details on the BA website here.

Have you been impressed by BA’s response to COVID-19 and will it affect how much you fly with them in future?

  1. Mike Rogerson says

I’m amazed they are being so generous, I was hoping they would at least extend my status by the 4 months or so I’ve been unable to fly, so couldn’t be more pleased with an entire year AFTER my status would have expired. It’s gone a long way to restore my faith in BA.
The reduction to only 75% of the needed Tier Points to keep my status for the year after is also a sensible move as I’m sure everyone will fly less over the coming year.

  2. Eduardo says

Is it really all members? They say on their site:

“All members will benefit, starting with those who have a Tier Point collection end date of July 2020, through to June 2021.”

My collection year ended on May 8th, and I’ll be down one tier on June 30th. Should I expect to have the extension too, sometime in the future?

  3. Peter Parsons says

My collection year end date is early June and I retained Silver at “full quota” having hit 600 points back in March. I take it this means that come next June (2021) I will automatically be extended through to 2022? I hope this is the case.
