Yesterday the Deal Daddy posted about a promotion that PayPal is currently running, which offers a £20 discount when you spend £150+ with Booking.com. You can register for that offer here.
I was having a read through the terms and conditions and noticed that there are actually two different promotions that you can take advantage of – the £20 discount, and a 20 Euro discount (register here.)
The general promo terms are clear that “you may save both the Euro offer and the Pound Sterling offer” and I have successfully registered both on my account.
Both offers state that you need to pay by 14th July, but the stay can be anytime between now and the end of the year. The Pounds Sterling offer only applies to stays in the UK and the Euro offer only applies to stays in Eurozone countries.
Bottom line
Both of these offers are effectively a discount of 13.3% on Booking.com reservations. I normally aim to get significantly more than that back from my hotel stays (cashback, hotel points, etc), but Booking.com does provide a lot of accommodation options and discounts/rebates of more than 4% are rare.
Terms
This offer is valid for a purchase on https://www.booking.com/paypal-uk between May 28th, 2019 until July 14th, 2019 (both dates inclusive) (“Offer Period”). The offer needs to be saved to your PayPal account and will then be automatically deducted in the checkout if you pay with PayPal and spend at least €150 on Booking.com (http://www.booking.com/paypal-uk). You can use the offer during the Offer Period for any purchase for future travel until December 31st, 2019. If you cancel your purchase after July 14th, 2019, you will get the costs of your reservation refunded but not the offer amount. The offer can be used to the maximum value. This Offer can be activated only once per user in the users PayPal account and can’t be shared with others. The Offer applies to items purchased on https://www.booking.com/paypal-uk after any taxes are added to the order and will be deducted at the checkout of the total. To take advantage of the offer, you must: a) have or open a PayPal account, b) activate the Offer in your PayPal account, c) make an online purchase of €150 or more with your PayPal account at https://www.booking.com/paypal-uk before 23.59H, July 14th, 2019. The Offer can only be deducted in the check-out provided that you use Euro as a currency for your purchase and when you pay for an accommodation in a country in the Euro (€) zone. The Offer will not be valid and available for any purchases for accommodation booked to non-Eurozone countries. When converting currency, currency conversion fees and other fees apply. There is a limited amount of discount vouchers available for this Offer and it will be based on the principle of: “First come, first served”. Booking.com and PayPal both reserve the right to cancel or modify the Offer at any time. The Offer may not be applied to previous purchases. It cannot be exchanged or substituted for any other item or cash value. This offer is provided to you by Booking.com. This offer is valid for users with a United Kingdom PayPal account.

Is it the location (UK or EU) or the Payment method (£ or Euro) will determine whether the cashback is paid or not?
Assume you can book EU accommodation in £ and vice versa.

I think the currency (at least the default currency) is decided by the location/ which paypal link you click. Switching it may or may not work in practice, but to be certain, I’d stick to the terms.
