Rocketmiles is currently offering 5,000 bonus American AAdvantage Miles on selected hotel bookings. When you factor in the standard 1,000 miles per night minimum, you can earn at least 6,000 AA Miles from a one-night stay!

Do note though that the offer only applies to “selected hotels” and that Rocketmiles seems to be considerably stingier than they used to be when it comes to which hotels/bookings you can earn these big bonuses on. Major cities still generally provide lots of potential options, but the cheapest properties tend not to be eligible.

That said, if you dig around a bit, you can still find some genuinely superb deals:

Taking the Three Sukhumvit Hotel in Bangkok as an example, I could find rates elsewhere as low as £50, whereas Rocketmiles is charging £85 on the same date for the same room. Crucially though, you’ll earn 6,000 AA Miles if you book with Rocketmiles, meaning you would be paying £35 more in order to get 6,000 AA Miles.

That works out as effectively paying 0.58p per mile, which is a very, very good deal for AA Miles – we value them at at least double.

Conclusion

Due to the relatively limited number of cheap hotels that are eligible for the bonus, this isn’t the sort of ‘no brainer’ deal that similar offers used to be, but it can still work out extremely well if you’re prepared to do a bit of searching.
