Flyertalk poster chongcao recently shared a link to IHG Reward Club’s upcoming global promotion – this time called “Free Nights Faster”.
Registration is now live, but note that the promotion doesn’t actually start until 15th January 2019. Basically, the promo is just another version of IHG’s (sometimes excellent) personalised promotions, which offer different amounts of bonus points for completing various types of stays / booking particular rates / etc.

As an IHG Rewards Club member you can earn at least 40,000 bonus points by staying at any of our 5,500+ hotels around the world from January 15 to April 15. Register now, before March 15, to start earning toward free nights today.
It’s that simple.”
As you can see, the promotion runs from 15th January to 15th April, so there’s plenty of time to take advantage. It should also stack nicely with IHG’s generous free nights offer for stays at new UK properties.
Bottom line
If you can hold off on booking IHG hotels until you’ve registered for the the promo and worked out the best way to hit your targets, I’d recommend doing so. These promos can be very lucrative, but do make sure to read the small print, as the challenges can be quite specific in terms of booking a particular rate etc.

Same here. It’s as if IHG know that I will either ignore the targets or game them to complete them with the bare minimum of nights.
Shame… because I have some hotel stays in Q1 where my only option is IHG…

I don’t appear to have any emails / invites from IHG so maybe I’ve not been targetted.
Hi John – sorry, when I said targeted I should have been clearer. What I meant was that different people will get different offers, but everyone should get something (assuming this one works in the same way as all the other IHG promos over the last couple of years).

Mine appears to be a lot simpler than James. The Feb bonus offer might already be sorted; I have 2 cheap stays booked already for the other “new properties challenge” but not sure if those would count as they were booked before I registered. However the terms only say you have to register in advance to participate; that means I could not do a Feb stay and subsequently register for the promotion. They don’t say that any Feb stays booked before registering will not count.

Pretty useless ones for me here.

I clocked up 4 nights (1 reward) with IHG in 2018, and the promise of all this effort for 40,000 points is unlikely to change that for 2019.
I’ll probably need to book a pair of bonus point packages to meet my (otherwise generous) target – but those seem hard to find and poor value compared to lower-earning rates. Any tips on finding these cheaply?

I doubt i will get the bonus this time around – to book a bonus package you have to pay the flexible rate. sometimes that can be £20 more plus the extra £5 for the 1,000 points – its not worth it.
