Because of the $100, I assumed that this giveaway would be limited to American residents. But, in fact, the contest is open to residents of: the United States, Guam, Puerto Rico, Canada (excluding Quebec), the United Kingdom, Malaysia, and New Zealand. (very weird and random set of countries, but the UK is included…)

I tried both ways.
I do wish Hilton would use a web address under their usual hilton.com domain for these competitions. For anyone else seeking peace of mind, the offer is referenced on the Hilton Honors homepage, you just need to scroll through all the other offers and sales to see it, and it is at the address in this article.
FWIW, I logged in using my Honors number and password, no problem.
Ian, I had a look on Hilton’s main page and promotions page but couldn’t find the offer mentioned anywhere. I then tried the original link again and this time it accepted my logins!
So it’s worth everyone who couldn’t register the other day, having another go.
Curiously, you have to click the ‘share with friends’ button on the promo registration page to get past that point.
