IHG may not be the most loved hotel chain right now, given the news of their impending points devaluation, but at least they’re trying to make up for it with a new IHG Flash Sale, offering up to 35% off and free breakfast across the UK, Ireland and Germany! (Y’know, that well known trio of countries?).
Launched yesterday, IHG App users get early access on the 8th and 9th Jan, before it launches on the website from the 10th. You must book by Sunday 14th Jan. The discount and free breakfast is valid for stays until the 15th April so that includes February Half Term and Easter.
Please note there is a not so small list of excluded properties hidden in the Terms and Conditions, so if you don’t see the January Sale rate when searching, that’s probably why!
Note when searching that the results in the App will display the standard advance purchase rate. When you go through to the actual room types, the January Sale rate should show at even less than that.
Is it a good deal?
When compared with standard advance purchase rates, the discount isn’t life changing. The key difference here is the free breakfast.
IHG is a stingy hotel chain, that doesn’t even offer top level Spire elite members free breakfast (much to my irritation!), so normally charges around £15 to £25 extra for a rate including breakfast.
These January Sale rates at the few hotels I’ve checked (mostly Crowne Plazas in London) are coming in cheaper than the cheapest advance purchase rate and include breakfast so offer a solid deal. Just remember these sale rates are non-refundable.
This offer is also valid on both standard and upgraded rooms. So if you are going to splash out on a suite for Valentines – you can bag your discount and breakfast on that too!
Don’t forget Accelerate
Despite the upcoming devaluation, IHG Accelerate can be a fairly easy way to increase your points stash significantly. This sale coincides with the latest Accelerate window, so if you were going to be making some stays, this would give a nice little discount and a bonus of free breakfast.
Conclusion
Whilst I wouldn’t go out of my way to book one of these rates, if you have travel coming up then this is a great opportunity to get some extra money off in the difficult month that is January, and bag a free breakfast. Whoever said there’s no such thing as a free meal…!?
