The Heathrow Rewards Premium Membership just got better.

Heathrow Rewards has always had a premium tier. Once you spent 500 GBP in a calendar year at Heathrow, your premium membership kicked in and you would earn 2 points per pound spent from that point onwards.

Let’s get the one downside of the recent enhancements out of the way. You will need to spend 750 GBP per calendar year to qualify for premium membership going forward. Your premium membership will be valid for the remainder of the calendar year in which you qualify and expires at the end of the following year.

But the benefits package that has been launched with this enhanced premium membership is attractive. Here’s a screenshot taken from the Heathrow webpage, detailing the benefits for both standard and premium members:

Premium members will continue to earn double points on Heathrow spend. But the bit that’s really interesting is hidden in the ‘Exclusive Premium offers’ section. Premium members receive free Heathrow Express upgrade vouchers, 10 GBP off 100 GBP spend at World Duty Free, 3000 extra points on your first Rocketmiles booking as a premium member and free premium wifi.

Premium members also receive one entry with every purchase into the annual Heathrow Rewards Millionaire prize draw. One lucky member will one 1 million Heathrow Rewards points each year. That’s a whopping 1 million Avios, perhaps more if combined with a conversion bonus, or 10,000 GBP worth of Heathrow shopping vouchers!

Current transfer bonuses

To promote the enhanced premium tier, Heathrow Rewards has launched a set of transfer bonuses to most of their airline partners. You will need to convert a minimum of 250 Heathrow Rewards points.

  • Standard members receive a 50% bonus when transferring their Heathrow Rewards points between now and 31 January.
  • Premium members receive a 100% bonus when transferring their Heathrow Rewards points between now and 31 January.

Note that only transfers to these airline partners trigger the bonus:

  • Avios
  • Lufthansa Miles & More
  • Virgin Flying Club
  • Emirates Skywards
  • Royal Brunei Royal Skies
  • Singapore Airlines Krisflyer

You will NOT receive a bonus on transfers to Ethiad Guest!

Bottom line

Although the threshold for premium membership has been raised from 500 GBP to 750 GBP annual spend at Heathrow, the new benefits package is a genuine improvement. The Heathrow Express upgrade vouchers, the 10 GBP discount at World Duty Free and the 3000 extra points for the first Rocketmiles hotel booking are all new benefits that many readers will appreciate. The prize draw is also fantastic news: who wouldn’t want to win 1 million Heathrow Rewards points?

The transfer bonuses are also interesting in that we now see a different bonus rate for standard and premium members.
