Good New Amex Offer – £5 off £10 at the Post Office

The lovely people over at American Express will soon be spoiling us with the annual fun and games of ‘Shop Small’, where you can get £5 back for spending £10 at thousands of bars, restaurants and shops all over the country. Shop Small doesn’t start until 2nd December sadly, but if you fancy getting some early practice in I have good news: the regular ‘spend £10 get £5 back’ Post Office offer is back.

“Save to Card to get a £5 statement credit on an eligible transaction of £10+ in-store at Post Office by 31 December 2017. Valid once per Card for the first 20,000 Cardmembers to save.”

I always think this is a great offer at this time of year – when I seem to spend more time in the Post Office than in all the other months combined. As you can see, the offer is once per card, but supplementary cards should be fine (register them separately) and I know I’m not the only one with a few Amex cards at my disposal 😉 .

Even if you don’t have any parcels/cards/etc to send right now, you can always take the opportunity to load up on some half price stamps.

How to register for the Amex Post Office offer

If you have an American Express card issued directly by American Express (Amex Gold/Platinum, SPG, BA/BAPP etc), login to your American Express online account, scroll down to the “offers” tab and then click on “save to card” when you see the Post Office offer.

If the offer isn’t on your account yet, wait a couple of days because it can take a while for Amex to add them sometimes, and then if it still isn’t there send a quick message asking if they could register you.

Bottom line

A fiver off at the Post Office may not be quite as much fun as an extended Shop Small pub crawl – but it’s a decent way to ‘practice’ spending as close to £10 as possible, before you have to do it after a few drinks!

??? Admittedly I don’t frequent the Post Office as much as I used to, but none of the ones I’ve ever visited accepted American Express, just Visa / MC. Is this relatively new?

I think it started a couple of years ago, when the latest batch of tills and self service machines was rolled out

Though, last time I tried, only the counter at my local post office took Amex, the self-service machines gave an error if you tried to use Amex on them.

Always been fine for me last few years – local and in Leeds and London. Not sure about historically though.

Even if you don’t want anything specific from the PO, it works on purchases of the one for all gift cards. You can buy them for any amount at any PO.
