I logged into my American Express British Airways (Blue) Credit Card account yesterday and noticed an interesting offer: 500 bonus Avios for spending £10+ at Tesco.

The offer applies to either an in-store or an online purchase at Tesco.com. You need to register your card, and then complete your purchase by 3rd December 2017. You can only benefit from the offer once per card.

How to register for Amex offers

If you have an American Express card issued directly by American Express (Gold/Platinum, SPG, BA/BAPP etc), login to your American Express online account, click on the “offers” tab and then click on “save to card” when you see an offer that interests you.

If the Tesco/Avios offer isn’t on your account yet, I’d wait a couple of days because it can take a while for Amex to add them sometimes, and then if it still isn’t there I would send a quick message asking if they could register you (though there are reports that agents are less willing to do this at the moment than they used to be).

Good deal?

Absolutely! I value 500 Avios as being worth about £5, so that’s potentially a 50% rebate given the spend requirement is only £10. Even if you don’t normally shop at Tesco, I think it would still make sense to pop in (if you’re passing one) to take advantage.

The best thing about American Express statement credit offers is that the discount/bonus comes after you’ve been charged, so can be stacked with any other sort of discount or cashback available.

Bottom line

500 Avios for spending £10 at Tesco is a great deal, and given that the offer is available all the way until the beginning of December, it really shouldn’t be too tricky to benefit from!
