Regular readers will be well aware that both Joe and I are HUUUUUGGGEEEE fans of Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan. I laid out my reasons why a European should consider Alaska awhile back in this post.
So, imagine my excitement when I found out that Singapore Airlines will be partnering with Alaska Airlines starting on 27 September, 2017. According to an Alaska Airlines press release…
Alaska Airlines announced today that Singapore Airlines will be its newest Global Partner. Members of Alaska Mileage Plan and Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer loyalty programs will begin earning miles on each other’s flights beginning Sept. 27. Mileage Plan members will be able to redeem miles for travel awards on Singapore Airlines-operated flights at a later date.
Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan partners with an eclectic group of airlines, such as British Airways, Emirates, Air France/KLM, American Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Korean Air, etc. Little regard is paid to the major airline alliances, with many different Oneworld and Skyteam airlines involved. Perhaps the only missing link was a serious Star Alliance partner. But this will soon change with the inclusion of Singapore Airlines.
Now… before we get too excited about using our precious Alaska miles on a Singapore First Class suite, we need to wait and see what the award chart looks like for rewards on Singapore Airlines. Hopefully there will be a Europe to Asia (or even Australia) option offered; it would be a shame for the partnership to limit itself to the handful of Singapore Airlines flights that make it to the States… Singapore Airlines, moreover, have traditionally been stingy with providing premium cabin award space to their partners. Fingers crossed that the new partnership might buck that trend… (after all, the handful of flights to the U.S. surely all have the latest Business and First Class cabins, so would they really all be excluded from the partnership?)
Rest assured that Joe and I will pounce on the news when the reward chart is released. For now, we can always dream about this…

Exciting news indeed (well hopefully anyway). I’d just about got my heart set on a JAL First Class redemption with most of the current stockpile, but maybe I’ll wait and see…
