Two good value promotions have just been announced between Avios and Heathrow Airport.

First up, you’ll earn 50% extra Avios when you convert your Heathrow Rewards points into Avios. As such, every 250 Heathrow Rewards points will get you 375 (rather than the usual 250) Avios.

This offer ends on 30 September, 2017.

Secondly, Heathrow Express is offering double Avios on all journeys booked online. This means you’ll get a very competitive 20 Avios per £1 spent.

Although the Heathrow Express remains eyebrow-raisingly expensive for a 15 minute rail journey, it’s definitely taken a number of steps to improve on this front, not least via heavily reduced advanced tickets, various Heathrow Express discount codes and of course the “Kids Travel Free” offer.

This offer ends on 24 October, 2017.

Note that collecting Avios with Heathrow Express is, even in the absence of this promotion, a much better option than collecting Heathrow Rewards points. The ordinary earning rate for Avios is 10 per £1 spent, versus a measly 1 Heathrow Rewards point. While I’d value a Heathrow Rewards point marginally more than an Avios point, given the increased flexibility (it can be converted to 1 Avios if you want, but also into other loyalty schemes or used as cash at Heathrow), 10 Avios is considerably better value than 1 Heathrow Rewards point.
