I wrote yesterday about how Choice Privileges Points might well be the best hotel loyalty ‘currency’ you’ve never heard of. There are a few reasons why they are so valuable, but one of the most compelling is the value you can get from redeeming Choice Privileges Points in Scandinavia.
Scandinavia is notoriously expensive and, generally speaking, the coverage from the major hotel chains is quite limited, so using Hilton/Marriott/etc Points can be tricky. Choice Privileges Points really come into their own in the region though, with lots of options and tremendous value.
Before continuing, it’s worth a quick reminder that until 17th August 2017 you can buy Choice Points with a discount of up to 30%.
If you buy at least 40,000, the cost per Point works out at ~0.6p each, which can result in some brilliant savings. I recently bought some myself, and it took about 24 hours for the Points to hit my account.
The deals
There are LOTS, so this is really just a few ideas to get you started – go and take a look for yourself here if you’ve already got specific destinations in mind.
I should also say that the amount of Points required for a particular hotel can vary dramatically depending on the dates (though sometimes what should be peak dates inexplicably require fewer Points with Choice…), so always check for the exact dates you want.
Stockholm, Sweden
The highly rated ‘Clarion Hotel Sign’ can regularly be booked for just 10,000 Choice Points (£60 if you buy 40,000+ in the sale):
This is a nice looking hotel in central Stockholm, that would set you back ~£150 for the same night if you were paying cash:
Saving: ~60%
Malmo, Sweden
The Clarion Collection Hotel Temperance in Malmo, Sweden gets 4.5* on TripAdvisor (6th best hotel in Malmo) and costs ~£120 for a random date this August:
– Or you can stay for 8,000 Choice Points, which you can buy for ~£48 (if you purchase 40,000+ in the sale)
Saving: 60%
Did I mention that the hotel includes free breakfast, afternoon snack and dinner as standard too?
Bergen, Norway
Cash rates at the Hotel NO13 (one of the best hotels in Bergen) are regularly around the £220 mark:
Buy Points, and you’ll be paying about £72 instead:
Saving: ~66%
Copenhagen, Denmark
The design-led Skt. Petri Hotel is a whopping ~£430 some dates this summer:
when you could just buy 20,000 Points for ~£120 instead:
Saving: ~72%
Bottom line
You really can get tremendous value redeeming Choice Privileges Points in Scandinavia (I’ve barely scratched the surface here), and there are plenty of great options in other parts of the world too which I’ll be writing about very soon!
