Secret Escapes can be a useful tool when trying to find good value hotel stays. If you haven’t heard about “the worst-kept secret in luxury travel” before, it’s a site that offers ‘flash sales’ at a range of selected hotels all over the world. The deals are usually pretty good and are further sweetened by the generous £15 Secret Escapes sign up bonus that you get for signing up through a referral link.

New sales are added regularly and are usually available for about ten days. Despite being free, Secret Escapes is a members only site, so you do need to sign up in order to see the deals.

Secret Escapes offers a best rate guarantee, and the rates sometimes include little extras like a welcome drink, free breakfast or late check-out too.

Is Secret Escapes any good?

Yes.

I use Secret Escapes fairly regularly and am happy to report that the rates are usually decent, and the hotels they work with tend to be pretty good.

It’s certainly not perfect though and sometimes it is possible to find better deals elsewhere, so it’s best to view Secret Escapes as part of your ‘travel hacking arsenal’ rather than making it the only site you use.

Example:

Grange Tower Bridge Hotel

If you fancy a trip to London, the 5* Grange Tower Bridge Hotel is £125 per night for many dates including the Summer Holidays (available to book until midnight tonight! – 21st July 2017). Secret Escapes usually adds a £5 booking fee which is a negative to be aware of, but your £15 sign up credit more than balances that, resulting in a total of £115.

The same ‘Executive Double Room” is selling for £250 on the same night (22nd August 2017) on Booking.com:

I should mention that the Secret Escapes price is non-refundable, while the Booking.com rate is refundable until a few days before the stay. On the other hand, Secret Escapes includes breakfast, while Booking.com doesn’t and would charge an additional £21. On balance I’d therefore call those rate roughly comparable.

As you can see, Secret Escapes can save you well over 50% once you include the sign up credit. A night at 5* hotel in London including breakfast for £115 is excellent value, and the availability at that price is wide open.

Secret Escapes Sign Up Bonus

The Secret Escapes sign up bonus is nice and simple. All you have to do is sign up here and your account will be automatically credited with £15, which you can then spend on any stay totalling £100+.

Conclusion

Secret Escapes doesn’t always offer great value, but it is certainly worth having a quick look when booking a hotel. The £15 Secret Escapes sign up bonus is an even better incentive to give it a try!
