We recently wrote about British Airways CEO/Chairman Alex Cruz’s comments on the future of Avios, and how in store Avios earning from shops and cafes on the High Street is being very actively pursued.
The latest evidence of that policy sees department store Debenhams and restaurant chain ASK Italian added to the in store Avios earning options.
You can now earn 2 Avios per £1 spent in store at Debenhams.
There are a few restrictions though, “Brands excluded in-store: Bear Grylls, Burtons, Coast, Dare 2b, Dorothy Perkins, Evans, Hot Squash, Iska, Joe Browns, Lands’ End, Little Mistress, Mela, Miss Selfridge, Monsoon, Oasis, Quiz, Regatta, Uttam Boutique, Wallis, Warehouse, Yumi and Zara. Products excluded in-store: Travel Money, Virgin Holidays, items purchased in the Café”.
The ASK earning rate is a relatively generous 5 Avios per £1.
You can use Tesco Clubcard vouchers (4x face value) on food at ASK, so being able to earn Avios back on the cash you spend on drinks is a nice little bonus!
These new options are in addition to the following retailers:
- American Golf
- Barrhead Travel
- Blue Inc
- Ernest Jones
- H Samuel
- Habitat
- Heal’s
- Officer’s Club
- Cafe Nero
Note that the BA in store Avios earning rates can be different to the Avios.com rates – so do check both!
Registering your card(s) is extremely quick and easy:
Remember that Virgin Atlantic Flying Club has a very similar scheme too, and includes Waitrose at a rate of 4 Flying Club Miles per £1.
Bottom line
These additions are hardly going to set the ‘travel hacking’ world alight, but it is always good to see more Avios earning options. How this in-store expansion develops will be very interesting to watch over the next couple of years.

Apart from avios, Virgin and bink are there any other instore earning travel points companies out there?
Joe Deeney says
I’m not sure actually – I think TCB and Quidco have some in-store stuff but I’ve never looked into it.
Yes, the Waitrose/Virgin offer is great if you’ve got a shop nearby.
Adam says
Got to think that the virgin offer instore at Waitrose is a cracking deal @ 4 miles per £1 spent.
