Hopefully every Starwood Preferred Guest member knows about their personal SPG dashboard. You can reach it via this link here. Essentially, the SPG Dashboard is a handy little website that tracks your progress towards elite status, promotional bonuses, and other tidbits. (I hope it survives any merger with Marriott Rewards)
Your SPG Dashboard is also where you will find individually-targeted promotions from time to time.

If you aren’t familiar with SPG Moments, you can read Joe’s great post on the variety of options sometimes offered. You sometimes have to dig into the details to find out that the uninteresting cooking class or whatever might be attached to a couple of nights at an amazing luxury hotel.
My individual promotion didn’t require that I WIN an SPG Moments auction, just that I BID on something. I duly chose a Formula 1 racing package and made a lowball bid. I was outbid immediately but there’s no doubt that I would have figured out a way to get to Bahrain if I had won a VIP Race Day Package for 2,000 Starpoints!
My 100 Starpoint bonus has already been confirmed… for 30 seconds of effort… But I was never e-mailed so I only found out through my SPG Dashboard.
So make sure to log in to your SPG Dashboard every once in awhile in case you also have been targeted for some free points…

I looked through the F1 offers, picked a weekend when I was actually free, then bid 500 starpoints higher than the cheapest package, making sure it was still quite a bit less than the other packages for that event. (For a qualifying day with 4 packages, there were packages at 2.5k, 3.5k, 10k and 15k, so I bid the 2.5k one up to 3k). Unsurprisingly, I was immediately out bid, but it’s qualifying for the offer 🙂
