I just posted about Wyndham Rewards extremely odd offer to give you 4 x your SPG Starpoints balance in Wyndham Rewards Points if you donated all your Starpoints to charity, but it has been pulled just minutes before it was due to officially start.

Wyndham released the following statement:

“Today’s Wyndham Rewards trade up was offered in the spirit of generosity. Before the offer even began, there were obvious and significant examples of fraud. Much to our dismay and disappointment, we have to cancel this promotion.  We will, however, make a donation of 5 million Wyndham Rewards points to charity as the work they do on behalf of others is real magic”.

This is a real shame because although the offer was odd (and I did have some serious reservations about it), it was also very innovative, as well as potentially very lucrative, so I was intending to dip my toe.

Oh well – at least they decided to pull it before it technically began.

I just hope nobody misread the terms and has already donated their Starpoints! – hopefully Wyndham and/or SPG will make it right if that has happened.

I also hope that this experience doesn’t put Wyndham Rewards (or other loyalty programmes) off from trying new and interesting ideas and promotions. I’m not sure any of us here at InsideFlyer can face writing about yet another Hilton double Points offer…
