UPDATE: Karhoo are no longer in business – Statement here.
I recently came across a new taxi app called Karhoo. Compared to ride-share behemoth Uber, Karhoo is obviously still relatively unknown – but it looks like it just might be the app that licenced taxi firms throughout the UK (and indeed the world) have been looking for to help them compete more effectively in the post-Uber world.
Daniel Ishag, the founder and CEO of Karhoo, (unsurprisingly) makes some bold claims about his business, “Karhoo is a game-changer, giving the booking.com generation the smartest way to choose and book a cab ride.”
I’m not totally sure about that yet Daniel, but I did try the service a few times in Leeds and Bradford recently and was actually quite impressed.
The app is easy to use, you can book in advance, prices are given in advance, waiting times were good, and customer service including through the online support offered (which answered in seconds) was excellent. Oh, there’s no surge pricing either!
Just like taxi apps such as Uber, Gett and Hailo, you book via an app on your mobile phone which you can download here.
Karhoo claims that it gives customers access to more licensed black cabs, minicabs and executive cars than any other app in the UK and has a UK network of more than 90,000 cabs, including 33,000 in London. It has certainly expanded rapidly over the last few months and now covers areas including Birmingham, Bradford, Leeds, Leicester, London, Manchester and Nottingham, with more cities due to follow soon.
The good stuff
Once you have downloaded the Karhoo app, go to the “Promos” page and enter my referral code JOSEP445 to get £10.00 off your first journey (so long as you travel within 30 days of signing up).
You can get an additional free journey up to £15.00 today and tomorrow by using the following to codes too
£15 off with code: KART4KE
– Expires 11.59pm Tuesday 11th October
£15 off with code: KAR1OU
– Expires 11.59pm Wednesday 12th October
I don’t believe that the codes stack and as far as I know my referral code only works for first journeys, so if you will be taking a few taxis today and tomorrow, I would advise using my referral code first (+ I get £10.00 credit, so thank you!), and then using the other two codes as you don’t have to be a new user to benefit from them.
£40.00 of free taxi rides for downloading an app and adding a few promo codes – not bad!
