Marriott’s New (Not So) MegaBonus – And How To Earn A Free Stay After Just 2 Nights Anyway

There’s a new Marriott promotion you can register for here. They’re sticking with the ‘MegaBonus’ name again, but frankly it doesn’t really deserve such a grand title.

You get to choose between either:

  • 5,000 bonus points after your second paid stay

or

  • 10,000 bonus points after every 10 paid nights, up to 50,000 bonus points

The first works out at 2,500 Bonus Points per stay (assuming you stay twice), and the second at just 1,000 Bonus Points per night (assuming you stay 10, 20, 30, 40 or 50 nights).

The promotion is for stays between September 15, 2016, and January 15, 2017.

MegaBonus used to be fun, allowing you to earn a free night at a Category 1-4  (even Category 1-5 I seem to remember at some point?) hotel after 2 stays. A night at a Category 4 hotel requires 20,000 Points, so the current promotion is offering only a miserly 12.5% or 5% (!!!) of what Marriott used to regularly offer.

So, yes the promotion is pretty terrible – but you might as well register anyway.

Any bonus Points are better than none, and given the length of the eligible period, you might end up having a couple of stays at some point between now and the middle of January.

I don’t think many people will be rushing to switch their stays to Marriott because of this promotion though!

How To Earn A Free Night Anyway

The latest MegaBonus might be rubbish, but Marriott still has a generous sign-up offer for new members (or new email addresses, ahem!), which means you can get a Category 1-5 Certificate after just two one-night stays.

To earn your free night:

  • Join Marriott Rewards using this link and be automatically registered to earn your free night certificate
  • Stay twice at participating hotels during your earning period*. Your earning period starts the day you enrol through the end of that month, plus an additional 120 days
  • Earn a free night at a category 1 – 5 hotel after your 2nd paid stay
