Hilton HHonors is currently offering a generous 80% bonus on points purchases, which lets you buy HHonors points for just 0.56 US dollar cents (0.39 pence) each. The offer ends on 8 February, 2015.
Given that we value Hilton HHonors points at around 0.3 to 0.4 pence each, this is potentially a bargain.
In particular, what is worth remembering – and separately flagging – is that there are 53 Hilton (Category 1) properties where you can stay for just 5,000 points per night. As such, in buying points at this 80% bonus rate, you are paying US$28 (£19!) per night for your stay at these hotels.
There is one Category 1 Hilton hotel in the UK – the Hampton by Hilton Newport/East. Given that the standard rate there is £89, you would be getting a bargain by purchasing the points to stay in this hotel.
Going slightly more upmarket, there are also 140 Hilton (Category 2) properties available at just 10,000 points per night. Again, taking advantage of this 100% bonus on points purchases, you are paying a very reasonable US$56 (£39) a night for these hotels.
Category 2 hotels in the UK are as follows:
- Hampton by Hilton Corby/Kettering
- Hampton by Hilton Liverpool John Lennon Airport
- Hampton by Hilton Newcastle
- Hilton Newport
- DoubleTree by Hilton Sheffield Park
- Hampton by Hilton Sheffield
Of course, these are just the UK properties – there is a substantially wider range abroad, whether Hilton category 1 (5K HHonors points) or Hilton category 2 (10K HHonors points).
In light of the redemption levels flagged above, buying Hilton HHonors points with an 80% bonus, and then redeeming these purchased points at the lower end Hilton hotels, will very probably provide you with a great value stay. It is also almost certainly going to be cheaper than simply buying your room with cash directly.
It’s worth remembering, too, that you get a free breakfast at Hampton by Hilton hotels, with 2 adults and 2 kids often able to stay in the room via a sofa bed. A stay for 4 people, including breakfast, for £19? Now there’s value.
One major caveat – mid way through last year Hilton offered a 100% points bonus. While there’s no guarantee that this will happen again any time soon, you do not need an advanced education in mathematics to conclude that the current offer is not quite as generous.
Finally, this isn’t all about getting your wallet out – don’t overlook the fact that we brought you details recently of a very easy free 1000 Hilton HHonors points.
