There is a large Lufthansa lounge complex at Hamburg but as you may have guessed from the sign pictured above, there are pretty much two lounges used by non-Star Alliance airlines at Hamburg – one for Emirates and the other.

Located two floors above the Duty Free shops airside, you can reach it by lift or stairs.

The views over the airport terminal are pretty spectacular. There are also floor to ceiling windows overlooking the runways and parking spots for most of the airlines.

There are a lot of different seating areas, and when I was there on a Sunday morning it was not terribly busy. There are also showers and toilets in the lounge. The seating is fairly standard, sofas, seats, desks and chairs at tables. Here is a selection:

The snacks were a mixture of self-service cereals, yoghurt, meat, cheese and bread as well as some sweets. Perfectly adequate for breakfast.

There was a wide range of drinks, soft and alcoholic, including a large fridge of beer which was being enjoyed by some of the guests. Too early for me in truth.

The annoying thing was that the WiFi was only free for 60 minutes which is a bit too short if you have a reasonable wait. However, you can get an hour on each device, so don’t log them all on at once, but rather in series in order to keep working.

It was fun watching a Thomson 767 arrive and it ended up being parked next to my BA flight.
