Whilst the hotel is centrally located it is about a 20 minute taxi ride from the airport (EUR25), I arrived late in the evening. The cab dropped me off at the main entrance which is at the back of the hotel. The rotating doors lead to a lobby and (on the right in the picture above), the lifts to Reception. As an alternative I could have taken the subway – EUR3.10 but about 30 minutes ride from the airport.

The doors of the lift open to the lobby which was empty at the time I arrived. The decor is earth tones and wood finishes. It feels immediately that you are visiting a first class hotel.

Park Hyatt Hamburg Reception

Two members of staff were working at the desk and they had me checked in after only a couple of minutes. The Duty Manager came out to greet me, and I selected the 1,000 bonus points rather than the amenity as I wanted a nap.

Behind you as you stand at Reception are the three glass elevators that serve the rooms. As I sped up to the 7th floor you saw the other flaws. At the top is a great glass ceiling in the lobby of the 7th floor which also houses the Grand Club area.

Looking over the edge of the handrail produces a magic view back towards the Reception area.

My room was lovely, and larger than the standard rooms. Large windows overlooked the city. Other rooms overlook the interior courtyard:

My room carried on the tones of the lobby, lots of wood, browns and greys and crisp white sheets. A desk, sofa and large TV were in the room.

The bathroom is just off the bathroom in the corner of the room. It had two basins, a large bathtub and separate wet area and a toilet. There was copious amount of storage.

The bed was very comfortable. The room was warm and so I turned the air conditioning it to the lowest temperature and opened the large windows to let in some cool air.

The Grand Club is large but was closed in the morning during my stay but this allowed me to take breakfast in Apples, the hotels restaurant. Others have raved about how good the options here were, so I was happy to give it a try.

You reach the restaurant through the bar

I was seated on the elevated section at the right of the restaurant with a great view of the other seating and the enormous buffet on offer. The waiter offered to arrange some eggs which I was happy to accept whilst I had a look at the buffet.

The food was great. There was a huge range of cereals, cold cuts and breads. Juices and even sparkling wine were on offer. Coffee was produced by the waiter.

The Grand Club coffee machine was on when I went back up to my room and here are some images

Reception indicated that the area was open in the evenings.

I checked out and made my way to the train station for my trip to Mainz. The entrance to the hotel from the shopping centre:

The lobby outside had some great sculptures:

The hotel is marked with large banners in case you come in from the shopping street side.

A really pleasant stay at a great Hyatt property that is well located. I left the next day for the train station, and a snow storm.
