Skyscanner the best place to find cheap flights?

New to the finding cheap flight prices game. But so far I think Skyscanner has been the cheapest to look for return flights for me. Any other suggestions of where to look?

Also notice prices are much higher depeding on the day you search for flights :confused:
 
Skycanner ultimately leads you to book with obscure OTAs that you've never heard of. If anything at all happens that requires support from the vendor, you will regret it...

I tend to use Google Flights.
 
Asking friends it seems they conclude that as long as you stick to your booking you shouldn't have any problems. In some cases asking airlines independantly to resolve problems can help a lot if you need to make changes etc. I might just chance Skyscanner. They're also slightly cheaper compared to the exact same flights I'm seeing via Google flights. I'll see how my experience goes. Need a bargain to fly to Zurich :D
 
Whilst it isn't as easy as skyscanner or google, best value tends to be best going direct in my experience. As an example i just booked LHR-DXB with Emirates direct. £450 through skyscanner / expedia and £346 direct. Both ECO Saver fares so not special ECO Fares
 
I always try a mix of, google flights, kayak, momondo, skyscanner and direct. They all use slightly different platforms which will send you either directly to the airline or OTAs. (Better when they send you to direct to airlines as extra points on the Amex gold :) This means prices and ability vary as some don't look at low-cost airlines while others do.

I have also used ITA Matrix recently you cant buy from there but it is good to see only the available connections etc in one place especially if you want to stick with one alliance or want to plan and multi-city trip.

I always clear my cookies and search in an incognito page or a computer i haven't used to search for flights ie work as prices are sometimes slightly lower.

No it never has been. If you're not using ITA Matrix you're missing out on deals.

If you must use a dumbed-down interface, cross-check with both Google Flights and Momondo.

People recommending Kayak are insane.

ITA is great, but it doesn't show all airlines (particularly LCCs).

Also, Momondo/Skyscanner/Kayak/etc can often find lower fares via (not always reputable, admittedly) OTAs.

The only consistent way to get the very best fares is to use a combination of as many sources as possible really - although, ITA/Google Flights and 2-3 Momondo /SkyScanner etc , is usually sufficient.
 
Good point. But for serious bargains you usually need ITA to find the roots of a good fuel dump before refining on something that accesses OTAs.

I guess Momondo et al. are also good for misprices every now and then.

Yep - without ITA, I'm not sure where anyone would even begin to look for fuel dumps.
 
I would definitely recommend Google Flights, as it's pricing is sourced directly from airlines as well as the online travel agents. Also has some handy tools such as price tracking and graphs.
