Hilton Honors members have a brand-new luxury option in Northern Europe. From 20 August 2025, The Hotel Maria in Helsinki has officially joined the portfolio as Waldorf Astoria Helsinki.

For points collectors, that means another aspirational property where you can both earn and redeem Hilton Honors points – in one of Europe’s most underrated capitals.

A historic landmark reimagined

Set in Helsinki’s stylish Kruununhaka district, the property occupies an 1885 building designed by architect Lagerspetz. It offers 116 rooms and suites that blend the grandeur of the original architecture with a fresh, modern luxury design. The full rebrand will be completed by the end of 2025, at which point the Waldorf Astoria branding will be fully in place.

Guests can look forward to:

  • A signature restaurant and bar with a strong culinary focus
  • Fitness studio and modern wellness facilities
  • A Nordic spa featuring a traditional Finnish sauna – a nod to the country’s famous spa culture

This opening marks the first Waldorf Astoria in the Nordics, and underlines Hilton’s belief in the region as a growing luxury market. While Hilton already has a presence in Finland, bringing in its flagship brand signals serious intent to target high-end travellers heading to Northern Europe.

Bottom line

The Hotel Maria has had a turbulent time recently – opening just before the pandemic and then losing expected demand from Russia following the war in Ukraine. Under new ownership, and now backed by Hilton’s global sales and loyalty platform, the hotel has a much stronger foundation for long-term success.

For Hilton Honors members, this is a welcome addition to the redemption map. Whether you’re looking for a luxury weekend break in Helsinki or a Nordic stopover on a wider European trip, the Waldorf Astoria Helsinki adds a fresh and genuinely aspirational option to the portfolio
