Ryanair Ditches Paper Boarding Passes for Good

It’s an end of an era, of sorts. Ryanair has announced that from 12th November 2025, it will no longer accept paper boarding passes. This means the digital version in the “myRyanair” app will be the only option for all passengers.

The change was originally scheduled for earlier in the month but was delayed slightly to ensure a smoother transition after the autumn school holidays.

This move probably won’t surprise many. According to the airline, almost 80% of their passengers already use the digital boarding pass, so this is simply a final step in their push to be more digital.

Ryanair’s Chief Marketing Officer, Dara Brady, framed the decision as a move toward a “faster, smarter and greener” travel experience. For most people, this won’t change a thing. You’re already used to scanning your phone at the gate. But for those who still print their pass as a backup, that option is now gone. Your phone is your ticket, full stop.

Bottom line

Given Ryanair’s influence as Europe’s largest low-cost carrier, it wouldn’t be a shock to see other airlines follow suit down the line. What do you think – is this a good move or a step too far?
