Marriott Bonvoy has launched its latest points sale, offering (up to) a solid 45% bonus, plus a small twist.

Running until 23rd December 2024, this promotion includes an extra 1,000 bonus points when purchasing 20,000 or more points – a nice little sweetener on top of the main bonus.

The Numbers

Points normally cost $12.50 (currently about £9.90) per 1,000. If you are eligible for the highest level 45% bonus, you will effectively pay about 0.86 cents (approximately 0.68p) per point.

Sweet Spot: It doesn’t make a huge amount of difference, but the optimal purchase is 20,000 points because you’ll receive:

• 45% bonus points (9,000 points)
• Extra 1,000 point bonus
• Total: 30,000 points for $250 (about £200)

Is It Worth It?

This represents one of Marriott’s better rates, though not quite matching the 50-60% bonuses we’ve seen in previous years. However, it could be particularly worthwhile if you’re:

• Planning a five-night award stay (fifth night is free)
• Eyeing up luxury properties where points rates offer significant savings
• Converting to airline miles for a high-value redemption (remember the 5,000-mile bonus when converting 60,000 points)

The Fine Print

Your Marriott account needs to be at least 90 days old (or 30 days with activity) to purchase points. The usual 100,000 annual points purchase limit has been temporarily increased to 150,000 points for this promotion.

Points typically post within 72 hours, though the extra 1,000 bonus points may take up to four weeks after the promotion ends to appear in your account.

The offer ends 23rd December 2024 at 11:59 p.m. ET (that’s 4:59 a.m. on 24th December UK time).
