Finnair Plus has launched a sale on buying points – with a bonus of up to 100% available until 18 September, 2023.

Why might this make sense for UK readers?

In early 2024, Finnair Plus will be adopting Avios as its loyalty currency. This will allow Finnair Plus members to move Avios to/from several different programmes: British Airways Executive Club, Iberia Plus, Qatar Airways Privilege Club, AerLingus AerClub, etc.

When the conversion occurs, 3 Finnair points will become 2 Avios.

The 100% bonus kicks in when buying 100,000 or more Finnair points. Therefore, if you buy 100,000 Finnair points you will receive 200,000 points. It will cost you €1,287.50. (approximately £1,100)

In early 2024, those 200,000 bonus points will become 133,333 Avios. Since you paid £1,100, that will work out to 0.82p per Avios.

Bottom Line

You might not want to pay money today to receive Avios in 6 months or more time. (although you could still spend those points through Finnair Plus if a good reward opportunity comes along)

But if you are a regular buyer of Avios, this might be an opportunity to lock in your 2024 purchase at a great price.
