Qatar Airways Privilege Club has announced that it will adopt Avios as its loyalty currency, starting in March 2022. Privilege Club members will have their QMiles balances converted to Avios on a 1:1 basis. Privilege Club will continue to determine elite status and upgrades with QPoints and QCredits.
Unfortunately, the details that we DON’T yet know are substantial…
Presumably, Privilege Club using “Avios” means that it will be possible to “Combine Your Avios” between Privilege Club and the other Avios-based loyalty programs owned and operated by IAG. However, there is no timeline for implementing this facility.
It is also unclear at this stage whether Privilege Club will align its award charts to match the ones used by British Airways Executive Club. As things stand, I believe that the sensible traffic would be mostly one-way – Privilege Club members moving their “QMiles / Avios” to British Airways and/or Iberia Plus. So, unless Qatar Airways wants to be paying substantial sums to IAG to compensate it, they will need to find a more equitable balance.
Over time, we will also start paying closer attention to Privilege Club, as undoubtedly there will be ways to earn MORE Avios by crediting certain flights or certain partner transactions to Privilege Club.
Earn 2,000 QMiles just for signing up to Privilege Club
Qatar Privilege Club is offering 2,000 QMiles as a sign-up bonus for new members.
You don’t need to take a Qatar Airways flight. You should receive the QMiles straight away. Eventually those QMiles will become Avios, and hopefully you can transfer them to BA or Iberia Plus in due course.
If you DO take a Qatar Airways flight before 30 September, 2022 – crediting it to Privilege Club of course – you will earn between 3,000 and 5,000 additional bonus QMiles depending on your travel class.
You can sign up for Qatar Privilege Club and pick up your 2,000 free QMiles by clicking here.
