Not everyone is going to be a fan of flying long-haul on a low cost carrier, but if you’re looking to maximise a limited travel budget, Scoot’s London Gatwick to Bangkok fares are definitely worth looking at. These are direct flights, and a return could set you back as little as £257!
As a low cost carrier, Scoot’s cheapest fares only include the flight itself and 2 cabin bags weighing a combined total of 10kg. You can pre-order a meal/drink/snack combo for £9 each way, and a ticket including 20kg checked luggage would cost about £40 more each way.
If you are happy to connect, there are also some excellent fares available with ‘full service’ carriers right now – particularly Finnair (from £315!).
Finnair’s ‘Light’ fares don’t include a checked luggage allowance either, but you’ll have plenty to eat/drink and can earn a few Avios/Tier Points if you credited the flights to BA Executive Club.
Scoot’s cheapest fares look to be available in March/April 2022 and the quickest way to find them is probably to use the month view feature on the Scoot website itself. For Finnair etc, Google Flights is your best bet if you want to see a lot of dates quickly:
Bottom line
There are currently still quite a lot of Covid-related restrictions in Thailand that are likely to last until early 2022. That said, it is now possible to travel, and hopefully by March things will be back to something more like normal.
Always bear in mind though that additional restrictions could come into force (if there is a new variant etc) and plan accordingly…
